First Shot Programs

First-shot programs are the initial introduction to the way a ya (arrow) is released in our practice by way of Shichido, the seven coordination. Such introductory First Shot programs are offered several times a year and listed on our Events Page, including our

January 2024 Intensive

and (annual program in early September)

Students may learn Shichido in a 2- or 3-day intensive program, or through a course of 4-5 consecutive regular biweekly Sunday classes. Kyudo practice means life-long learning, and the start is slow. Along with learning the technical aspects of the form, participants will be introduced to the more meditative dimensions such as letting go of self-critical thoughts and embodying a relaxed mind.

Finally, when they are ready, the student will take their 'first shot’. This becomes the foundation for their further practice.
